Sure I have a favorite quote. But when it came time to share it I realized I don't have just one favorite quote but many. In fact, I have a journal where I periodically commit new quotes to my long list of well-loved quotes. I collect quotes like I collect shoes. How about you? What's your favorite quote? What do you think that says about you, your mood, and your current position in life?

What I came to understand about myself is that my favorite quote changes often and perhaps that is the very nature of quotes. Just like a different pair of shoes complements an outfit so does the quote complement our current station in life whether it be love, encouragement, life or the many variants that affect us daily.

I also realized my journal of quotes had four common themes.

  1. I usually approach things with humor and sarcasm (and I have a filthy mouth).
  2. I'm drawn to quotes from Albert Einstein, Winston S. Churchill, and Mahatma Gandhi.
  3. In every quote, a strong human nature prevails.
  4. I would have liked to have been friends with Audrey Hepburn.

So without further ado, my favorite quote right now is one that I have partially borrowed from my friend Marcel and molded to fit my life experiences.

"I can sum up everything I have learned about life in three words – LIFE IS BIG." -- Ursula
